Yet again, the oppression of the Palestinian people continues. This time crossing borders into Jordan to undermine Jordanian citizens as well as Palestinians. Despite years of protests, petitions, lobbying efforts and a huge presence on social media, Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) signed a $10 million deal where Israel will supply Jordan with 300 million cubic feet of natural gas per day for 15 years. The Jordan BDS movement, helping support the larger global BDS movement, immediately came out furious after the deal was signed in the last few weeks and helped organize a large protest in downtown Amman. Both the deal and the protest rally were covered by the media, but most of the articles and clips portrayed the deal in a positive light, rather than the disgrace that it is.
Here is a reuters clip about the protest that helps explain some of the context, but ends almost praising the deal itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nUR3qNd5Ec
Jordanian BDS actions, and the protests that have been happening in general, are inspiring but we (around the world) have a lot of work to do.
Here are some articles that I found on the deal and protest rally:
